Description:

International Relations is the study of how countries relate to each other, depend on each other for cooperation, share mutual benefits and deal with global challenges such as climate change, trans-national crimes, terrorism, etc.

This is a Bachelors Program which introduces students to key concepts and theories of International Relations. Students are expected to develop an understanding of the International System – the structure and processes in which states act as separate entities yet they agree or disagree to cooperate with each other in various areas. Apart from states, they will explore vital concepts, models and practices of international organizations and the laws that govern states’ behaviors.

Students will analyze security issues that threaten states as well as the international community and how they deal with them.  Moreover, they will analyze how economic activities determine states’ behaviors.

Activities and assignments will further enhance and broaden students’ understanding of the key concepts and theories.

Requirements:

Students who have completed Year 12 with good results or equivalent. Working class people with a background of Social Science, Humanities, Public Administration, Social Works, etc, can also apply.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the program, students will be able to;

• Develop an understanding of the key concepts and theories of International Relations;
• Relate the concepts, processes, models and practices to describe the International System and to describe individual states’ behavior;
• Grasp an understanding on how they could potentially apply the knowledge and skills at their workplace in terms of interpreting Current Affairs, World News, analyzing Foreign Policy and applying Diplomatic Skills, where necessary;
• Analyze some of the model organizations or world events and draw vital conclusions, recommendations and lessons from them;
• Demonstrate the skills and knowledge in completing assignments and reports.
• Present a Major Report based on Research.

• the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT/DFAT);
• the International Relations Department of the Prime Minister (or President);
• Diplomatic Missions overseas;

• Foreign Policy Analyst with your government;
• Strategic Military Intelligence and advisory task;
• International Organizations such as United Nations agencies, NGOs and other Inter-Governmental Organizations;

Assessment:

Student will complete activities and assignments on the Activity Booklet and submit them as soon as they complete them. Feedback, corrections and comments will be sent back to students for reflection and further self-evaluation.

1. analyzing of the key concepts, theories, processes and practices in International Relations;
2. Demonstrating the application of concepts/theories especially analyzing individual states’ Foreign Policy decisions and their actions in the international arena.
3. Completing all activities on lectures and the Major Assignments.
4. Completing a Major Research Report on a topic in International Relations.

Evaluation:

There will be an evaluation of the course at the end of the program where individual students will give feedback in terms of rating, describing and provide personal perception of the course itself, the modes of delivery, teaching methods, content cover, facilities, etc.

At the end of the course, students will receive their Diploma with a reference.
